Terms of Use
The agreement between you and Rotunda for using the app and this website.
Last updated August 28, 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Rotunda mobile application and rotundaapp.com (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.
1. What Rotunda is
Rotunda is an informational civics app. It summarizes publicly available government records — legislation, officeholder information, and election logistics — in plain language, and links to the underlying sources.
Rotunda is not legal advice, not voting advice, and not an official government service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any government body, agency or official.
2. Accuracy, and its limits
We work hard to be accurate and we source what we publish. But the Service is provided for general information, and you should not rely on it alone for decisions with legal, financial or electoral consequences.
- Government data changes constantly, and the sources we draw from can be delayed, incomplete or themselves incorrect.
- Plain-language summaries necessarily compress detail. The linked source is always the authoritative text, and it governs where the two differ.
- For anything to do with voting — registration deadlines, polling places, ballot contents, eligibility — confirm with your state or local election office before acting. They are the only authoritative source, and Rotunda does not replace them.
If you find an error, report it to info@rotundaapp.com. We treat factual corrections as urgent.
3. Automated summaries
Some explanatory text in the Service is generated by automated language systems working from official source documents. These systems are constrained to rephrasing sourced material and are not used to originate factual claims about votes, bill status, officeholders or election details. Automated systems can still make mistakes, which is why every story links to its source for you to check.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service unlawfully, or to harass, threaten or endanger anyone — including any public official whose information appears in it.
- Scrape, bulk-download or systematically extract content from the Service, or attempt to circumvent its rate limits.
- Interfere with the Service’s operation or attempt to gain unauthorized access to its systems.
- Reproduce the Service’s original written content commercially without permission. The underlying government records are public domain and yours to use freely.
5. Intellectual property
The Rotunda name, logo, design and original written content belong to Rotunda. Government records, bill text and official data reproduced in the Service are public domain or licensed from their respective providers, and are attributed on each story.
6. Availability
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it at any time. We don’t promise uninterrupted or error-free operation, and much of what the Service shows depends on third-party government data feeds we do not control.
7. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rotunda disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and any warranty as to the accuracy, completeness or timeliness of the content.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rotunda and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your reliance on information in the Service. Because Rotunda is currently provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you is limited to one hundred US dollars ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
9. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what the Service does and doesn’t collect. In short: no accounts, no analytics, and your personal settings stay on your device.
10. Apple
The iOS app is distributed through the App Store. Apple is not a party to these Terms and has no responsibility for the app or its content. Your use of the app must also comply with the App Store Terms of Service.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page, and material changes will be made clear in the app. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
13. Contact
